Domestic violence puts other generation of women at risk because children who see women being battered believe that this practice is normal. Children that are being abused and are exposed to violence between their parents are at a greater risk factor of continuing the cycle of abuse. Boys who witness domestic violence are 2 times more likely to batter women when they become adults. More than 3 million children witness domestic violence in their home every year, and 4 million that’s the number of women who will be battered this year. Why are women battered so often? It tends to be a combination of control, narcissism, and being out of control. Most women are battered because the other person is out of control from drugs, alcohol, or even depression. Women especially young women are seen to be safe targets they’re not going to fight back as often and if they do, they simply cannot cause as much damage to the perpetrator. Women of any age are frequently battered.

Severity

. Of 18.3% of women who have survived rape or attempted rape 12.3% were younger than age 12 when they were first raped. Almost half of all women who have survived a reattempt in the US had the incident occur before their 18th birthday.

. Girls in the 16-19 age demographic are 4 times more likely than the general population to be victims of rape attempted rape or sexual assault.

. The FBI estimates that only 46% of rapes and sexual assault are reported to the police and that less than half of all domestic violence incidents are reported to the police.

.Battered women are 4 times more likely to contemplate suicide, but 26 times more likely to abuse drugs.

. Up to 43% of lesbian and bisexual women have experienced partner violence indicating that this issue is not just between husband and wife or male and female relationships.

There is simply no excuse for this. Whether it is a lack of having coping skills there are environmental factors in play or a combo of both, people who think its fine to batter women need to be stopped. By providing women with the necessarily resources, educational material, and encouragement to leave harmful relationships, and maybe can get some of these awful statistics decreased. The last reported cases of child abuse in the USA 677,529. One year and younger 149,828, two to five years old 165,016, six to nine 143,389. 411,969 victims 60.8% are neglected, 72,814 victims 10.7% are physically abused, 47,124 victims 7% are sexually abused, almost 5 children die every day from abuse and neglect. Annual estimate 1770 children die each year. 70.6% of all child fatalities were younger than 3 years old. 46.6% of children who die from child abuse are under the age of 1 year old.
